Mother's Day Event 2011: Sponsor Spotlight & Review - TheGoodOnYaBar

I Love My Mommy
Mother's Day Event 2011
Sponsor Spotlight & Review:
The GoodOnYaBar

According to the makers of the GoodOnYa bar, The GoodOnYa Bar is a bar gone rogue. Not afraid to use real food with healthy fats. This is not just an energy bar, but an organic nutrition bar that offers you real value for your money. Organic, dehydrated and full of flavor. This is what you should you be eating.

The GoodOnYa Bar is one of the marvelous sponsors for my Welcome to Motherhood prize pack and they are offering one lucky reader a sample pack of their organic nutrition bars!

I had the opportunity to try out the same sample pack. The three flavors are the Breakfast Bar, Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate, and Peanut Butter Honey. I have tried many health bars in my quest for good snacks after working out and for general health and one of the unique aspects of the GoodOnYa bars is that every single thing that goes into each organic nutrition bar has a nutritional purpose. There are no fillers and as a result the bars appear smaller than many other bars on the market. I like knowing that everything I'm eating has a nutritional value, especially when I'm working to watch what I eat while trying to get back to my pre-baby weight.

The ingredients in the Breakfast Bar include 100% organic cold milled flax, 100% pure organic maple syrup, and 100% organic raisins. The calorie count on the breakfast bar is 287 which is a bit higher than I usually look for in a bar.

Personally, this was not my favorite flavor of the three bars. I was expecting a bit more sweetness to it. I like raisins but I didn't get much of the raisin taste and instead I felt the flavor was very focused on the flax. If you're not familiar with texture of flax, this bar may take some getting used to but if you are a fan of flax I think you will really enjoy it. I personally have had my share of flax so I noticed the texture but it was familiar to me.

The ingredients in the Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Bar include 100% organic cold milled flax, 100% organic valencia peanut butter, and 100% organic dark chocolate. The calorie count on this bar is also 287.

Peanut butter and chocolate -- who could ask for a better pairing? This flavor is definitely my favorite of the three as I am a huge peanut butter and chocolate fan. If there is a peanut butter flavor of something, I'm sure to try it first! Once again, those who are unfamiliar with the texture of flax may be surprised as it is very different from the oatmeal that is often used in granola and energy bars.

The ingredients in the Peanut Butter Honey Bar include 100% organic cold milled flax, 100% organic valencia peanut butter, and 100% organic raw honey. The calorie count on this bar is a bit higher than the others at 295.

This was my second favorite flavor out of the three and I believe it's because of the peanut butter. I'm definitely a peanut butter fan and I'm sure I'm not alone!

As with any product, The GoodOnYa Bars have some great qualities. The focus on natural ingredients is something that I really appreciate. I also appreciate that each bar provides 22% of your daily value for iron. I have been a bit low in iron since W was born so this is a definite plus for me. The one drawback for these bars is the flax and the texture that comes with it. For those who are used to oatmeal based bars that are commonly available in stores, it will be a big change of pace. But if you are looking for dairy-free, soy-free, and gluten-free nutritional bars, you should check out The GoodOnYa Bars!

Disclosure: I was sent a sample pack of The GoodOnYa bars to review and The GoodOnYa Bar is providing the giveaway prize. I was not compensated in any other way for this review and all opinions are my own. FormulaMom’s full disclosure can be found here.
