A to Z Challenge: E is for Eagles

Today was perfect timing for the letter E because I am currently obsessed with something that begins with an E. Eagles! This is not baby-related at all except that I think W would love it when he is older. I am really enjoying watching the Decorah Eagles. The Raptor Resource Project brings you the Decorah Eagles from atop their tree at the fish hatchery in Decorah, Iowa. The have an infrared camera as well so you can watch them any time, day or night.

I started showing the streaming feed on my projector in my classroom so students could watch it while they were working on their computers and now I'm just as hooked as some of them! It's interesting to watch the mother and father take turns sitting on the nest and watching the eggs hatch. If you haven't checked it out, set aside a few minutes to see what's happening with the eagles!

You can also watch some of the highlights on YouTube including: The First Egg Hatch, The Second Egg Hatching, and even Birthing an Egg!

It really is intriguing although I may be more interested than in the past due to my recent birthing experience. It's interesting how I now find birth in nature very fascinating but that's a topic for another time! Don't miss the Decorah Eagles!

  2. Wow, I never knew that even existed. I am scared to check it out though because I don't want to become addicted too.

  3. Wow! That sounds neat. My grandson gets excited when a baby chick hatches out and he has claimed 4 of them from the Silky Chickens my daughter raises. But watching wild birds and especially eagles sounds like something really special.
