I'm nearing the end of this challenge and the end has proven to be the challenge. I had to be creative yesterday and today all I can think of is the color yellow. I was tempted to go look at pictures of cute fluffy diapers again but almost every brand offers a yellow diaper so that wasn't quite as fun as the other colors. Though I could have gone on the hunt for yellow diapers with cute color names like macaroni and cheese!
Instead, my thoughts wandered from diapers to something else... something yucky. So Y is for Yucky.
As a teacher there are a few things that I don't handle well. One is barf. When a student pukes, I just want to curl up in the corner. It makes me gag and want to throw up too. Now, W's spit up doesn't have this effect on me, so we're good so far. We'll have to see what happens the first time he is really sick and puking. I'm sure I will do what I always do in my classroom, suck it up and help the child in need. But still -- yuck!
The other thing that gets me is the dreaded poopy diaper! I haven't had this problem in my classroom (thank goodness) so it applies only to my dear child. Now he's never been much of a pooper and has always been a once every few days type. This used to make me nervous when he was little but the pediatrician assured me that some babies are just like that. I've calmed down about it now and actually see it as a blessing. Better than 10 times a day!
The only problem with only having to deal with it a few times a week is that I never get used to it! Now, I don't know if you can ever get used to it but when we have to change him it's like every time is the first time I've smelled such horror! It is definitely a yuck and I gag almost every time. This is definitely of my weaknesses as a mother! Perhaps I will get stronger or my sense of smell will begin to fade! If not, I am doomed to many more diaper changes while I try not to breathe through my nose!

It is pretty yucky to see a student get sick. I do OK with it though. And with my son it's never bothered me at all.

I used to be a teacher--I remember those times kids would puke...definitely yucky! I always tried to get everyone out of the room so it wouldn't start a chain reaction of puking! lol

Hello, here from the Alexa Hop...also a GFC follower. Would love for you to return the love at www.fingerclicksaver.com. Now that I have that out of the way, I so hear you when it comes to vomit! There was a day in my life I could tolerate it, but I can't any longer. If I see it, smell it or have to clean up even cat puke...it's all over...I start gagging and then out it comes. Loose stools, or anything like that doesn't bother me at all...go figure... Probably a good thing though as I have a son who's 27, disabled and wears attend diapers. And luckily for me...he very seldom vomits...thank God!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I just saw Miss *a* get sick for the first time a few weeks ago. She's rarely sick, and the few times she did urp, it was on Daddy or Grandma's watch. Six years, and I wasn't sure how to handle it. Luckily, she's a trooper. I act like I'm dying when it happens, she just does her thing, and moves on. :)

I can handle barf. I was a nursing student and dealt with all sorts of less than pleasant bodily fluids. But the one thing that grosses me out the most is sputum. Seriously, even the word itself (or mucus) makes me want to gag!
ReplyDeleteAgree with the puke..
ReplyDeleteAlso gagging.. ugh people gagging kills me! lol
*Really* not looking forward to our first puking illness. My oldest is 2 and we have managed to avoid it so far! :-P
ReplyDeleteNot good with throw-up. :-P

Ahh! It was awful the first time our little girl threw up. Since then both of out little ones have been sick but it gets easier- showers help! a. lot.
ReplyDeleteY is definitely for yucky, and Mr Yucky there is definitely a good guy to have around to mark poisons!
ReplyDeleteYucky is right! I had three kids in a row and was THRILLED when I was able to get my youngest potty trained within a couple of weeks of turning 2 years old. Six months later, she also dresses herself now. Her two older brothers weren't potty trained until after they were 3. So glad I don't have to change diapers anymore. Good luck to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping by from the Alexa hop. I hate barf, too. I volunteer and had to help a student when he was barfing, and that day still haunts me. I'm following you everywhere: GFC, FB, and Twitter. Hope that helps. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteIm stopping by from the Alexa hop as well. Barf is one of the hardest things about parenting for me. I'm one of those that puke when I see puke. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me shiver! haha! Hope you'll hop on back and follow me through GFC! www.shopaholicmommy.net
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yeah, the barf is really gross and I can't handle that well either. But I've gotten pretty used to the poopy diapers.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan either!! Just stopping by from the Alexa Blog Stop. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThankfully after 3 kids the poop doesn't bother me. LOL! But barf now that's another story! HAHAHA!!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from the Alexa Hop! I liked your page! Hope you'll come return the love! :)

I heard a story--probably a legend about a stewardess who went to help a man who was throwing up and when she got done to wipe up the floor she threw up on the man's shoes--who proceeded to turn his head and throw up on the man next to him...Funny story--but the smell does start the gag reflex!
