I Love My Mommy Mother's Day Event 2011 Sponsor Spotlight & Review: Tommee Tippee

I Love My Mommy
Mother's Day Event 2011
Sponsor Spotlight:
Tommee Tippee

When researching the different types of bottles available, I was looking for products that would not hinder the breastfeeding relationship I had planned on having with W. While many brands of bottles claimed to help reduce nipple confusion and to promote breastfeeding, I was drawn to some good reviews I had read about Tommee Tippee and also the shape of the nipple. As I began to learn more about Tommee Tippee I discovered all of the amazing products they offer for feeding, weaning, and comforting! They offer everything you could need from bottles to sippy cups and tableware to bibs and pacifiers! I'm excited to bring them to my readers as one of the wonderful sponsors for the I Love Mommy Mother's Day event!

I will be the first to admit that I am definitely drawn to the wide variety of products offered by Tommee Tippee and by the wonderful colors many of the products are available in. At my Babies 'R Us there is a whole Tommee Tippee wall and I love to browse it even when we don't need anything!

If you haven't browsed their products, here are just a few of my favorites that I hope to get to use with W in the future!

There are many more items I look forward to trying as we move more into solids and W begins working to feed himself. I have read some good reviews of the Tommee Tippee sippy cups and will probably end up trying them as soon as W has a better understanding of the cup. Right now we just have a sippy cup that I let him play with a bit to start getting used to it. He does have fun with it so I figure that's a good sign!

One thing I really like about the Tommee Tippee website is that the products are coded with a color code so you can easily tell which products are appropriate for your child based on age. Of course, all babies are ready for different things at different times but it's nice to have an easy to read guideline! It's always nice to have a bit of guidance when making decisions. Knowledge is power!

While I look forward to getting to use the Explora products from Tommee Tippee, we are currently in the bottle stage which leads me to the Closer to Nature bottles by Tommee Tippee. Closer to Nature bottles are designed to be the closest thing to natural breast feeding. The super-wide nipple flexes and stretches like the breast and the sensitive anti-colic valve allows babies to feed comfortably with less air and vacuum build-up. These were some qualities I was looking for when I was registering for bottles. Little did I know that all of my concerns about nipple confusion wouldn't be an issue as we moved to exclusively pumping rather quickly. Ah, the best laid plans...

But back to the bottles! Tommee Tippee generously allowed me to try a set of 5 ounce Closer to Nature bottles. I hadn't had an opportunity to try the 5 ounce bottles because I only registered for 9 ounce Tommee Tippee bottles thinking that the 5 ounce wouldn't last as long! Well, I've learned my lesson there because there are times we could still be using 5 ounce bottles as W takes between 5 and 6 ounces at each feeding. I also thought the 5 ounce bottles looked tiny! So even though they held the same amount as my other small bottles, my mind was doing weird things on me!

Here are some comparison photos. The first is the 9 ounce Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottle (left) compared to the 5 ounce Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottle (right).

This is a photo comparing a 9 ounce Gerber bottle with the 9 ounce Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature as well as a 5 ounce Gerber to a 5 ounce Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottle.

The Closer to Nature bottles are definitely different in their shape. They are also wide mouthed compared to the standard Gerber bottles we also use. It's probably important to note that W doesn't have a nipple preference. Give him a bottle and he drinks from it! He's never been picky in this department.

We started using the 9 ounce Closer to Nature bottles very early on and I liked the wider shape because it was so easy to hold. W could even get his little fists under it a bit.

These bottles worked well for us as W got bigger. When he was smaller, the nipple would collapse some. I thought it might be because the flow was too slow but we didn't change nipples and as he got older, it did that less. There could have also been a learning curve on the part of the users!

What I really like about the 5 ounce size is that they tuck away into tight spots in the diaper bag much easier than other bottle brands we have right now. Sometimes the diaper bag just seems to be bursting at the seams, but the 5 ounce Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles fit right in!

Another thing I like about the Tommee Tippee bottles is that the larger size goes to 9 ounces rather than 8 ounces. I feel like we may need that in the future!

I would recommend that everyone try the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and see if they work. Sure, not every bottle works for every baby but I think these are worth trying out if you're on the hunt for a bottle or two!

I'm excited to announce that Tommee Tippee is offering the winner of the Welcome to Motherhood prize pack a set of 5 ounce Closer to Nature bottles to try out!

  1. I was super duper excited by this Review...and the Giveaway is an added bonus! I really plan to infest in some of these bottles, as it's always difficult to find the ones closest to the breast as possible..and we plan to do both I think...which also excited me as it looks like Tommee Tippee has some really great breast pumps too! I will definitely have to infest some early entries in this one :)

  4. We use TT bottles and LOVE them! We actually have never used the 9 ounce ones...LA has never taken more than 5 ounces of BM so we are using the 5 oz ones for now. I am also loving their sippy cups now that we are starting to use them! Great review Mariah!
